What does a Treasury Analyst do?

The title of Treasury Analyst covers an array of different positions. In general, though, Treasury Analysts monitor a business’s flow of money and act as a liaison between financial institutions and managements.

Basically, if you’re a Treasury Analyst, you manage all of the transactions between your company and the bank. In larger companies, this might mean overseeing several wire transfers each day between different parts of the organization. You review each transaction, evaluate it for accuracy, and record it in an accounting ledger. Depending on the size of the company and the number of financial transactions they make, you “balance the checkbook,” or reconcile the accounts on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.

Another aspect of your job is evaluating financial options. You investigate and compare a variety of lender-offered loans, and may even complete some of the paperwork involved to acquire those loans.

If you work in the banking industry, you provide additional services to your client, such as monitoring the buying and selling of stock. You ensure that all of the details are correct, create and maintain separate files for each client, and make entries into the accounting ledger.

In other positions, you monitor budgets, evaluate banking needs in conjunction with those the banks offer, complete foreign exchange transactions, maintain payment schedules, record transactions, and manage the flow of cash. Based on this information, you suggest changes to the financial procedures as needed. This requires an aptitude for numbers, a keen attention to detail, and an analytical mind.
