Spanish Professor

Basic Spanish can help a student order food in a restaurant. Advanced Spanish can help them run a restaurant in Spain. Students who study Spanish at the college or university level build upon the skills they learned in high school, and they emerge with a deeper understanding of the language and the people who speak it. Spanish Professors make this learning possible.

Spanish Professors teach their courses in sets so students can progress through lessons and build upon the education they received in prior classes. If you’re a Spanish Professor, you teach basic courses at the beginning of the year and move on to more advanced concepts towards the end.

In your classes, you help your students expand their vocabulary. Learning a language means committing many new words to memory, and you coach your students on how to remember those words. You conduct your classes in Spanish, and sprinkle the new words throughout your lectures to help the students remember.

In some lessons, you describe the political processes, educational systems, legal systems, or histories of Spanish-speaking countries. You may also teach courses in Spanish literature for your advanced students.

At the end of each course, you provide each student with a grade, based on how well they performed in tests, papers, and projects.

Between teaching classes and grading papers, you attend meetings for your school. These meetings may be about books your department should use or new staff that must be hired. Since you’re a senior member of your department, your opinion carries weight, but you don’t let it go to your head.
