What does a Sewing Machine Tester do?
Sets up and operates new sewing machines to test machine and attachments preparatory to shipment: Feeds piece of cloth into machine to test feeding action. Threads machine and makes prescribed tension adjustments preparatory to test sewing. Starts machine and sews sample piece of cloth, varying stitching pattern and type of stitch to evaluate machine operation. Installs machine attachments, such as hemming, buttonholing, and shirring devices to evaluate operation of attachments. Rejects defective machines and attachments. May verify effectiveness of machine attachments, using detachable gauge. May specialize in attachment testing and be designated Sewing-Machine Attachment Tester.
