What does a Professional Poker Player do?

As a professional poker player, you play poker for a living. That may seem simple, but there’s so much more to it than that. This job requires great card skills as a starting point, of course. But intertwined with these card skills is an in-depth understanding of mathematics and odds. Some professional poker players keep extensive records of their past playing performance, analyzing their numbers in the hopes of improving future outings.

In addition to managing your stats, you also need to manage your schedule. You have to keep abreast of the latest tournaments, both online and in the real world. Online poker has given almost every person who’s handled a deck of cards dreams of earning thousands (maybe millions?) of dollars while sitting at home on the computer. These online casinos can be gold mines for some, but be warned, there are sharks in those waters.

Real-world tournaments may offer the biggest payoffs but they carry their own pitfalls. Long nights spent at the table and even longer days spent on the road, away from home and family, can be a challenge. However, if you want a life of action and risk under the hot casino lights, where the turn of a single card could mean riches or loss, then this could be the job for you.
