What does a Mess Attendant do?

Serves food to officers and crew aboard ship: Prepares hot and cold drinks, and fruits, for serving, and sets tables for meals. Serves food. Washes glassware and silverware after meals, cleans messroom, and disposes of trash and garbage. Makes beds and cleans bedrooms and bathrooms assigned to ship’s officers. May be designated according to area in which work is performed or personnel served as Mess Attendant, Crew; Mess Attendant, Officers’ Room; Mess Attendant, Officers’ Salon.
