A job as a Fuel Cell Engineer covers all those bases. As a Fuel Cell Engineer, you spend your days crashing hydrogen and oxygen together in such a way that it produces enough energy to power a car.
Not only do fuel cells produce an impressive blast of energy, but the process is also great for the environment. The only byproducts burned and released from a fuel cell-powered engine are water and heat. In addition to being environmentally friendly, this process is efficient, effective, reliable, and quiet-so quiet that you can barely hear an engine run.
The exciting thing is that this technology goes far beyond the car in the garage. It is increasingly being used in remote areas where traditional power is expensive and/or difficult to access. Examples include weather stations, military applications, and spacecrafts.
As a Fuel Cell Engineer, your knowledge will expand this industry exponentially in the coming years. Right now, the only disadvantage to fuel cell technology is that it is still expensive to produce, so you will find techniques to get the same results using less expensive processes.
