Summary

Conduct, coordinate, and supervise work on construction sites.

What does a Builder do?

Builders either construct buildings from scratch or work on the repair of homes and other buildings. You organize subcontractors to complete specific jobs. Builders are also responsible for ensuring that projects meet industry and government standards as well as clients’ requirements.

You work as part of diverse teams, and sometimes you are required to operate machinery and help in other activities. Construction work involves high risk, so you must comply with strict safety measures. It is necessary to wear protective gear and to verify that sites are safe for all employees.

Builders may be responsible for managerial and administrative duties as well. You draw up plans conforming to client requirements, provide quotes for building work, take all the required approvals, and manage teams of carpenters, electricians, plumbers, and painters. Good understanding of geometry and general math are needed to understand the design and components of structures. You must also be able to read blueprints. The ability to work as part of a team is essential.
